NO CLASSES DURING CLAY COUNTY SPRING BREAK March 17-21
About this class:
Students will learn the basics of both handbuilding AND the use of the potter’s wheel. All abilities and levels are welcome in this class, as these fundamentals can easily be scaled up for students who are already familiar with the processes and materials. This class may also be taken in additional sessions, if a similar project is repeated there is always something new to be learned from the process and skills are constantly building on each other.
This class gives special focus to understanding the nature of clay as a medium, which creates a strong foundation and empowers students with the ability to apply basic techniques in creative ways. Understanding how clay works requires time spent in what we might call ‘play’ - time spent touching the clay and learning the sensory cues it gives us. Students will be given time to experiment and become familiar with learned techniques in addition to assigned projects.
This class is taught by clay artist Lydia Borko, who recently received her BFA in ceramics from Illinois State University. She also has a heart for kids and a professional background in childcare/early learning development.

*Your kid WILL get clay on their clothes*
Aprons will be provided, but clay is inherently messy (especially for beginners). Please have your kids wear clothes that are okay to get messy, it will come out completely in the wash.
This price includes: clay (provided per project), limited studio glazes, kiln firing and usage of classroom tools. Students may only fire pieces made during class in the studio.
Minimum of 4 students per class. Max of 8 students per class. A week before classes begin, if the minimum has not been met we will have to cancel the class. Please sign up in advance to guarantee your spot in the class or to make sure we have the class you want for your artist. Please share with your friends through email and social media!
IF the instructor has to cancel class for emergency reasons (personal or environmental) and we cannot find a replacement teacher, we will contact you as soon as possible through the Remind App. There is always a possibility of a makeup class at the end of the session to finish glazing. Students can even come any session after if they have pieces to still glaze.
Payments are made per session, not per class. If your student cannot attend a class during the session, there are no makeups or forwarded payments. Signing up for the session ensures your spot in the class for all 8 weeks.
If you are having trouble signing up for a class it means there are no spots left for that session. Please choose a different class or session.
